Dover Skating Rink

c1910s

Dover Rink was constructed circa 1909 by the Dover and District Rink Limited.  Only staying in business for a few years, the building became Number 1 hanger for the RNAS Station housing Seaplanes during the First World War.  Built on the site of Guilford Battery, the building remained until the widening of the road in the 1970's.  The sole remaining building from this era stands derelict, having been used for several years as the Army recruitment centre.

In the foreground are the old baths which were demolished following WW2.  The site remained derelict until the new Hotel and Pub were built in the early 1990's.  Also on the cliff-top can be seen the Admiralty Lookout which was built on the site of the Military Hospital - a chimney can just be seen !
