India Monument and Dover Stage Hotel

c1950s

The memorial in Camden Crescent was erected in 1861 for the men of the 60th Rifles killed in the Indian mutiny of 1857.

In the background is the Dover Stage Hotel was built in 1956-7 and designed by Louis Erdi.  It was (thankfully?) demolished in the 1980's and is now used as a carpark.  In the 'now' picture can be seen the awful Burlington House, described in Pevsners Buildings of England as a 'depressingly blank bulk' !!
