Old St James's Church

c1920s

The 12th Century Old St James's Church fell out of use due to it's size in the 1850's.  St James's new church was therefore built just up the road.
The old church was badly damaged during WW2, fortunately being saved as a memorial to the suffering of the town and know as Dover's Tidy Ruin.

Adjacent is the White Horse, one of the oldest drinking establishments in the town being along the course of the St James's Street, the main route into the town from the Deal direction. It was built with the conversion of two houses into the "City of Edinburgh" between 1750-1760 and became the White House in 1792.  The pub is supposedly haunted !.
