St James's Lane

c1920s

Squashed between the multi-story car park and the market Square is the Lord Nelson public house which was built in it's current form in the 1880's.  St James's Lane was one of the many narrow roads that covered this area for centuries, but is now earmarked for a new shopping development which will see the area change from the derelict site is has been since the Second World War.

The car park was built on the site of the old Leney's Phoenix Brewery.
